Over 3 million children grow up without parents in Thailand; even more live in broken families; many in families below the poverty line. Particularly in the mountainous regions in the north of the country, some of them live far away from schools and have little opportunity to attend regular classes.
There are now several non-governmental aid organizations that care for these children and have set up orphanages, children's villages, or children's homes.
One of these organizations is our project partner, the Raintree Foundation in Chiang Mai, whose origins date back to the 1990s. By establishing children's homes and providing down-to-earth, practical social work, this organization has set an example for many families in need in the north of the country.
As part of a teamwork training program, a practical training concept is being developed that specifically addresses the requirements of care work in children's homes.
Key elements of the training include precise communication, cooperation, clear role allocation, and forms of respectful interaction. The content of the training is directly linked to the everyday work of the employees and is designed to strengthen personal responsibility, conflict management, motivation, and interpersonal skills among colleagues and with the children.
The interactive training is designed as a pilot workshop: all content is documented, the results are processed, and will be available for reuse in future training courses. This pilot project, which will initially be led by an external trainer, will enable the Raintree Foundation to scale up similar training courses in the future and conduct them independently.
Target group
The project is aimed at 17 female and 18 male employees of the Raintree Foundation who work in various facilities for children and young people in northern Thailand. The skills they learn will immediately and sustainably benefit the more than 300 children currently in the foundation's care.
