Accessibility Statement

We strive to make our website usable in accordance with the applicable legal requirements on accessibility
(in particular the German Accessibility Strengthening Act – BFSG). This is a voluntary service. The Dr. Birk Foundation website is not covered by this law.
Our goal is to provide as many people as possible with unrestricted access to the content and functions
of our website.

The technical requirements are based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 –
conformance level AA.

Status of Compliance with the Requirements

This website is currently partially compliant with the accessibility requirements.
We continuously work to identify and remove existing barriers.

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, the following limitations currently exist:

• Contrast & readability
  Some text and image areas do not currently have optimal color contrast.
  This can make it difficult for people with visual impairments to see the content.
  In addition, smaller font sizes can impair readability.
  We are continuously optimizing contrast and typography.
• Keyboard usability
  Basic navigation and scrolling are possible using the keyboard.
  However, individual elements—especially visual components such as slider modules—are
  not yet fully optimized for keyboard-only use.
  We are working on further improving navigation.
• Use of framework components
  Our website uses UIkit 3 for slider and navigation elements.
  Certain ARIA attributes (e.g., role, aria-label, or tabindex)
  are generated automatically and can only be customized to a limited extent.
  Some testing tools therefore report potential deviations from WCAG recommendations.
  However, the content is still accessible (e.g., via screen readers and keyboard).
• Multimedia content
  Currently, no supplementary multimedia formats such as audio descriptions or explanatory videos are available.
  We are examining the extent to which such content can be added in the future.
• Comprehensibility
  The texts are mostly clearly worded. However, content in easy-to-read language is not yet systematically available.
• Spam protection
  We use an invisible form field (honeypot) to prevent spam.
  This is not relevant for users and assistive technologies and does not impair usability.

We are committed to resolving these limitations as soon as possible.
